ICU Medical’s Plum 360 Infusion System Receives Best in KLAS Award a Third Year in a Row as Top-Performing IV Smart Pump

News / Friday January 31, 2020

The 2020 Best in KLAS award will be presented to ICU Medical on March 9 during the Best in KLAS Awards Reception at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society conference (HIMSS20) in Orlando.

San Clemente, Calif. January 30, 2020 – ICU Medical, Inc., a worldwide leader in the development, manufacture and sale of innovative medical devices used in infusion therapy and critical care applications, today announced its Plum 360 infusion system is recognized once again as the top performing IV smart pump by KLAS Research, a leading global healthcare research firm. This is the third year in a row KLAS has recognized the Plum 360 in its Best in KLAS: Software & Services report. ICU Medical received the same award in 2018 and 2019.

The Plum 360’s Best in KLAS designation is based on feedback from thousands of healthcare providers throughout the United States and Canada and results from in-depth side-by-side comparisons of IV smart pump performance in multiple categories, including culture, loyalty, operations, product, relationship and value. ICU Medical will be recognized on March 9, 2020, at the KLAS Awards Reception during HIMSS20.

“Providers and payers demand better performance, usability and interoperability from their vendor partners every year. Best in KLAS winners set the standard of excellence in their market segment,” said Adam Gale, president of KLAS. “Earning a Best in KLAS award should both excite and humble the recipients. It serves as a signal to providers that they should expect only the best from the winning vendors.”

“Being honored with the Best in KLAS designation for a third year in a row is deeply rewarding and reflects the value we demonstrate to customers every day,’’ said Dan Woolson, corporate vice president and general manager of ICU Medical Infusion Systems. “Not only does the Plum 360 outperform all other large volume pumps on the market but ICU Medical provides its customers with the highest level of service and support to help achieve their goals for safe and efficient IV medication delivery.”

The Plum 360s unique and proprietary design features are instrumental to the device’s ability to increase both the safety and efficiency of IV drug delivery.

“Twenty years after the U.S. Institute of Medicine report ‘To Err is Human’ shined a light on medication errors, patients remain at risk due to potential errors — such as missed secondary infusions, under-delivery, and uncontrolled flow events — that neither the best drug library or the tightest integration of the pump to the electronic medical record (EMR) can address,” explained Matthew Hutchings, vice president global marketing & innovation for Infusion Systems at ICU Medical. “The Plum 360’s unique design features make it unique in its ability to help address these challenges by connecting the secondary line directly to the PlumSet cassette, allowing the pump to differentiate between primary and secondary infusion lines, helping to avoid common secondary setup errors.”

Hutchings added that programming the Plum 360 with ICU Medical MedNet, which is the first IV pump and safety software to receive UL CAP certification, automatically starts in the drug library, helping to ensure utilization of the hard and soft limits in the drug library, improving compliance and enhancing medication safety.
