The Smart-Y provides a closed system to allow
for accurate measurement and rapid draining of fluid or air in the
chest or abdomen. The closed system provides reliable sterility and
fool-proof security, while the one-way valves allow for rapid
draining and ease of use.
The Smart-Y eliminates erroneous settings which could
cause iatrogenic pneumothorax. The dual, one-way check valves are a
fail safe way to ensure the right direction for fluid and air
travel. Designed with safety in mind, the Smart Y has two one-way
valves and two MicroClaves®
to ensure a closed system is maintained
should the syringe or lines become disconnected.
The Smart-Y is the smart way to perform abdominal or
thoracic centesis, eliminating the risk and confusion involved with
these complicated procedures.
-
Smart-Y eliminates 3-way stop-cocks and their inherent problems
and risks. Simply connect the Smart-Y to the patient, attach a
syringe to extract fluid/air, and connect a drain bag or syringe to
capture extracted material. Use for thoracocentesis or
abdominocentesis.
-
Access the body cavity with needle, wingset or other puncture
device. Contect the male luer lock of the Smart-Y to the wingset.
Connect a syringe to the MicroClave (green band) opposite the male
luer which will act as a "pump." Connect an extension set (or
capture syringe) to the MicroClave (red band) adjacent to the male
luer as a capture device.
-
To begin drainage, pull the plunger of the "pump" syringe. The
syringe will fill with fluid or air. Push the plunger of the "pump"
syringe to expel the contents into the drain collection device. If
the capture device is positioned below the patient, fluid will
continue to siphon without the need for pumping.
