WEEE Internet Information

Sustainability Statement

ICU Medical manufactures products across the globe and respects how each Country handles its waste management issues. As an international manufacturer, ICU Medical works diligently to maintain full compliance with all relevant directives. For instance, European countries require compliance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE), the Batteries Directive, the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS), the EU Packaging Directive and of course the REACH regulations (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization & Restriction of Chemicals).

For further information on compliance scheme documentation please contact us.

WEEE and Batteries Compliance

ICU Medical subscribes to a WEEE Compliance Scheme and provides a recycling program for its customers throughout Europe. The program enables customers to send ‘end of life’ electronic equipment for recycling to nominated waste recycling facilities. The scheme varies from country to country.

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment

Under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive and implementing regulations, when customers buy new ICU Medical electrical and electronic equipment they are entitled to:

  • Send old equipment for recycling on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis (this varies depending on the country).
  • Send the new equipment back for recycling when this ultimately becomes waste.

You also have a role to play in ensuring that WEEE is reused and recycled safely. So, if you choose not to return WEEE to us then you should not dispose of it in your bin. The crossed out wheeled-bin symbol on the product reminds users not to dispose WEEE in the bin. You should ensure that the WEEE is collected separately and sent for proper treatment. WEEE contains hazardous substances and if not managed and treated safely it can cause pollution and damage human health.

ICU Medical products are sold in following counties by distributors. The distributor acts as the importer of the equipment into country. Thus, the distributor has the legal responsibility to:

  • Register as the WEEE producer in country.
  • Finance arrangements for collection and recycling of WEEE arising from ICU Medical products that the dealer sells in country.

Countries where products are sold by distributors:

Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia

Please contact your distributor for more details.

Collection and Recycling Arrangements

Under the Europe Ordinance on Waste Prevention, Collection and Treatment of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE Ordinance) that came into force on August 13th, 2005, for equipment that you buy from ICU Medical after August 13th, 2005, ICU Medical is required to finance the collection, treatment, recycling, and recovery of WEEE that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. The old equipment that your new purchase from ICU Medical replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.

Under the WEEE Ordinance, ICU Medical is also required to finance the collection, treatment, recycling, and recovery of any electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from ICU Medical after August 13th, 2005, when that equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.
